Gardening for Food Project

Part 1a: Available term 5
Part 1b: Available term 6
Pupils will broaden their awareness of different types of flowers and plants, herbs and spices, but focusing on those used for food.  They will develop confidence; interact with nature, and have different experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom.
The focus of this project will remain horticulturally based, and will continue to reflect the aims of the Campaign for School Gardening, launched by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2007.
This course will help our pupils develop the following skills and abilities:
  • Greater scientific knowledge and understanding
  • Enhanced literacy and numeracy, including the use of a wider vocabulary and greater oration skills
  • Increased confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Development of physical skills, including fine motor skills
  • Development of a sense of responsibility
  • Positive behaviour
  • Improvements in emotional well-being.

This project focuses on learning about growing and caring for plants used for food. Pupils will develop existing plots, and focus on themes relevant to the spring and summer growing period.
