Prep School Day
At Auckland College we promote well-being, confidence and a positive attitude within our school community that goes beyond normal school hours.
Our school day starts at 7.30am everyday with breakfast club. Pupils are offered a selection of cereal and fresh fruit and there is also the opportunity to enjoy some reading or puzzles with friends before registration. (The cost of breakfast club is included within the school fees).
Our School Day
7.30am to 8.20am – Breakfast Club
3.00pm to 6.00pm – After School Club and other activities (The cost of After School Club is included within the school fees).
There is a standard weekly timetable for lessons at Auckland College with specialist teaching in PE, Spanish and Art. From Year 5 pupils also have access to our on-site science laboratory. All pupils take two subject courses per year as part of our enhanced curriculum.
Each pupil has a copy of their timetable printed in their Auckland ‘Student Planner’ which contains their own particular class timetable for the current year. Reading books and a homework diary are also provided. Pupils have their own personal targets, and parents are kept regularly informed with termly parent evenings.
Homework is an important part of our children’s learning as it complements, extends and enhances the school curriculum. Homework is set by the class teacher and is appropriate to the current topic of each subject. Prep School pupils from Year 2 onwards have the opportunity to complete their weekly homework during the After School Club with support and encouragement by the staff.
We have found that parents appreciate this extra support, whilst recognising that it does not replace the valuable time that is spent at home encouraging literacy, numeracy and communication skills (for which our teachers are happy to provide guidance concerning their child’s learning journey).
