Auckland College students had the opportunity to go for an orienteering trip to Sefton Park. The students used a map from 1867 and compared that to what the park is like now while spotting key features along the way. Overall, the orienteering trip to Sefton Park provided Auckland College students with a range of learning benefits, encompassing historical understanding, map reading skills, critical thinking, and environmental awareness. It also promoted collaborative learning and fostered a deeper connection with their local community and its heritage. Such experiential learning opportunities contributes significantly to students’ academic growth and personal development.
