SECONDARY SCHOOL

Our Secondary School (Year 7 through to Year 11) has a growing reputation for nurturing individual’s academic and personal development that effectively prepares our boys and girls for GCSE and other examinations.

We welcome pupils from both across the region, and internationally. As a non selective school we pride ourselves in providing a safe and stimulating environment for learning. Our small classes mean that students are able to form effective relationships with our specialist teachers and teaching staff that helps to develop their self-confidence and enjoyment in subject areas.

STAGE 3

The curriculum in the first three years of our Secondary School is broad and balanced, so that pupils can explore many different areas of knowledge and develop their skills, abilities and interests. The subjects taught include: English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, PE, Spanish, PSHE and Art.

English, English Literature, Science, ICT and Mathematics are compulsory GCSE subjects. Towards the end of Year 9, pupils choose three further GCSE options which are currently: History, Geography, PE, Business, Spanish and Art. The choice combinations are arrived at by consultation with teachers and parents.

STAGE 4

Pupils follow their chosen GCSE and academic pathways and prepare for their external exams, which are taken at the end of Year 11. Pupils achieving above their expected attainment level in Year 10 have the opportunity to take exams early and progress to AS level in Year 11.

“Occasionally, very able pupils sit GCSE examinations at the end of Year 10 and begin to work on advanced-level topics” Outstanding Ofsted Report May 2019

“Secondary-aged pupils make excellent progress from their varied starting points.” Outstanding Ofsted Report May 2019

Pupils also have the option to attend extra classes running until 4pm each afternoon. These lessons include exam technique guidance, revision and time management guidance. Booster sessions take place after school and during school holidays in the lead up to the exam season and pupils remain in school during this time to maximise their revision opportunity with their subject teachers.

Our pupils are taught on an individualised basis, and we aim for all pupils to reach their full potential which may be achieved through alternative pathways such as vocational qualifications or functional skills qualifications either alone or with a combination of GCSE core subjects.
