Auckland College Independent School sets out to provide an education of the highest quality, which allows every pupil to reach their academic and personal potential in a safe, happy and stimulating environment. It aims to prepare pupils to enter the world as individuals, fully equipped with the skills needed to be successful and happy in both their careers and personal lives, whilst making a valuable and long lasting contribution to the wider community.

The Latin saying for ‘Seize the Day’ is ‘Carpe Diem’.

It encourages one to make the most of the present without worrying about the future. Even though the phrase is extensively used in popular culture, the roman poet Horace is believed to have coined it more than 2,000 years ago.

Dwelling on the future has never done any good. Instead, it escalates anxiety and robs us of the joy of the present. So, time and again many famous personalities have reiterated the importance of ‘carpe diem’, living in the moment and making the most of what we have today. Overthinking about what’s yet to come will not change the inevitable. Focusing on what you have in front of you and appreciating the little joys of life is the key to ultimate peace and happiness, today and every day!

“Every pupil matters, every moment counts”

We place children’s welfare and safety at the centre of our school always. Our pupils receive an education that seeks to ensure their individual academic ability is nurtured and that they are highly motivated in reaching their greatest outcomes. We do not accept any forms of discrimination or oppressive behaviour. We strive always to keep our school environment free from bullying and have a zero-tolerance approach to any such behaviour.

We promote an inclusive school community where pupils have equal access to all that the school has to offer, both during school hours and outside school hours.

Our school was founded in 1999 and was previously situated in the Allerton area of the city. The school’s name comes from the street we were situated on and was chosen by one of the school’s first pupils. The initial drivers behind the school’s conception were in response to a growing view from many parents and concerns regarding the trend towards large scale schooling, on big school campuses and large classrooms. Their concerns centred on the lack of individual attention their children might receive in a large classroom environment, as well as concerns over how their child might effectively socialise in large schools. Concerns were also voiced regarding the safety of their child and the impact of much reported incidents of bullying highlighted in press articles and from previous personal experiences and the impact of such behaviour.

Auckland College was founded by Gillian Akaraonye, a teacher with many years’ experience and widely known for the successful operation of a thriving tuition service. Co-founder of the school was Anthony Akaraonye, previously Head of Children’s services, with over 25 years’ experience of children and family services at all levels.  This combination of education and welfare experience has been at the heart of the school’s ethos from its very conception.

Auckland College quickly developed a reputation for an excellent school experience and grew over the years to provide full time education for children from infancy up to senior and sixth form. The first thing that parents and visitors to the school noted, was the supportive and caring school environment and this has stayed true to today.

The school moved to its current site in Aigburth in 2000 and later included the development of our excellent nursery and pre-school unit. Auckland College has been operating for over 22 years and during this time many hundreds of pupils have successfully graduated from the school.

Our aim has always been to create a school environment in which pupils can thrive in confidence and in their academic study equally. It is our belief that with such confidence, pupils are better prepared to fully achieve their goals. Although goals are set to match the individual abilities of our pupils, our committed teaching and support staff team, along with our parents, ensure that our high academic expectations are fully supported and our pupils are driven to achieve highly.

Auckland College has developed to offer parents in Liverpool a valuable choice in their child’s education, one that promotes a small school experience in which they can thrive and be both recognised and fully engaged.
