AUCKLAND HOUSE NURSERY

Auckland house day nursery has held a special place in our heart since it opened in 2009. The nursery is located in a leafy suburb close to Sefton Park. There is easy parking available and the nursery is close to transport links on a route into the city Centre.

We are proud to provide dynamic, exciting and supportive early years services to children and families. We continually strive to achieve and maintain the highest standards in early years, in a supportive, caring and welcoming nursery.

We provide exceptional early years care in a safe, nurturing and fulfilling environment whist inspiring children to grow and reach their full potential through key skills and values.

The nursery consists of six beautiful rooms and two outdoor areas that are inviting and filled with inspiring resources to provoke children’s learning.  With provision for 0-3 year olds, highly committed, qualified and caring practitioners and dedicated management, our children are fully supported in their learning at every stage of their development.

Auckland House team work hard and continuously strives for improvement in order to meet the needs of the children, supporting them to “Learn, Enjoy and Flourish”.

HOW WE

LEARN

We offer the children a broad and balanced curriculum which follows The Early Years Foundation Stage. We offer a variety of activities, both planned and free choice, which provide opportunities to learn through play.

We run a carefully-planned programme of themes/topics throughout the year to ensure that the children are given a wide range of active, real-life and everyday experiences to ensure their learning about their world. These themes/topics are chosen to reflect the children’s interests and include visits in and around the locality.

We offer a mixture of active and quiet times throughout the day and the children have opportunities to participate in both indoor and outdoor activities. We take every opportunity to further individual children’s communication skills in speaking and listening. We encourage the children to look at books and seek opportunities to read stories to and with them.

We develop early Mathematical skills through everyday routines, as well as through planned experiences and games. We provide activities which engage the children in problem solving and investigation. We stimulate the children’s imaginative and creative development through a range of activities, including: role play; a variety of painting, modelling and drawing experiences, both planned and free-choice; singing and dancing to music as well as listening to music and playing instruments.

We encourage the children to make choices and decisions during free play. We also expect them, supported by adults, to take appropriate responsibility for the care and maintenance of resources.

THE EARLY

YEARS LOG

At Auckland House Day Nursery we believe children should learn through play. Each nursery day is carefully planned to give a balance of adult-led and child-led activities and we adapt the planned activities to individual children in order to reflect their particular skills, interests and development needs. We find learning comes naturally when the activities are enjoyable and stimulating. All activities are planned with the Early Years Foundation Stage in mind and carried out in a high quality and caring environment. Your child’s emotional and social development is also paramount too and our priority is to make each child feel secure, valued, confident and happy.

Your child’s progress will be monitored and recorded in an online learning journal and you will be regularly informed of their development via the Eylog parents app. EyLog allows our Early Years Practitioners to capture a photo, a video clip or a voice recording, as well as written notes using a tablet computer and these observations from staff members are then uploaded to a secure web-based learning journey to which parents have access to via the app or email link. This fantastic tool significantly reduces the time spent on capturing, maintaining observations and managing the learning journeys of your child and sharing observations much more quickly with you.

We believe that using online learning journeys will allow both a rich body of evidence to support our partnership with parents and to help us plan for individual children’s development, and of course a wonderful keepsake for parents to share with their children.

All data is held in encrypted form and is accessed subject to a secure login and password.  The only people who can access a child’s learning journey are the relevant early years practitioners, the Management team and the child’s parents.

We recognise how important it is to gain feedback from parents and carers and welcome your involvement and input into shaping their time at our setting. Parents can share information, observations from home, photos and videos of their children directly with the key practitioners as well as the management team via the Eylog app also.

The Eylog app is also used by practitioners to submit regular summative reports for children either in preparation for transition between rooms, transition to school or in preparation for the bi-annually Parents Evening.

Routines
Curriculum
Assessment

At Auckland House Day Nursery we try to ensure that our nursery environment supports the child during the settling in process and therefore support the child’s continuity of care. We aim to ensure that whilst your child is within our care we are following a similar and comforting routine that is familiar to them.

Each room within our nursery has its own routine as a guidance and this is followed daily to enable each child complete stability whilst with us, as this predictable routine supports each child in adapting and establishing themselves into our nursery. However in Baby room the staff will follow whatever the routine you have at home.

This routine offers a structure to enable children to be clear and understand what is coming next, building upon their familiarity of routine however each planned play opportunity be it small group time, outside play etc. offers flexibility and plenty of choice enabling each child the opportunity for discovery and learning through a good balance of adult and child initiated activities in which they can actively engage within.

At Auckland House we aim to ensure that every child feels accepted and has a strong sense of belonging whilst at our nursery.

Auckland House Day Nursery has clear systems to:

  • Make an assessment of children’s starting points (baseline)
  • Plan next steps (individual targets) that challenge all our children sufficiently
  • Track the progress of individuals, groups of children and cohorts across the EYFS
  • Identify how much progress is made by individuals as well as groups of children and the cohort

In order for our parents to get regular reports and feedback about their child’s learning and development and understand how well their child is learning, we:

  • observe and assess informally all the time
  • formally assess the children on entry, and then quarterly.

These more formal measures and reports are completed by looking at and analysing the evidence from the observations marked in children’s online Learning Journeys (eyLog), which you receive daily as your child attends the setting. Above all by the Auckland House staff’s in-depth knowledge of the children is shared and discussed with you on regular basis, during drop off and collecting time as well as the regular Parents Evenings we have booked throughout the year. Staff work in teams and discuss assessments as a class team to ensure we get a full picture of each child and plan appropriate next steps for each individual child.
