CURRICULUM

In Physical Education, pupils will look to develop confidence and competence in excelling in a broad range of competitive sport and physically demanding activities. Our curriculum will provide opportunities to support health and fitness amongst the pupils, while understanding the values such as fairness and respect.

Year 7

Pupils in year 7 will focus on key concepts in PE which include: learning how to warm up and cool down effectively; leading parts of lessons amongst peers through understanding rules associated with different sports; peer and self-assessing performances; and developing physical competence.

Pupils in year 8 will look to continue the development of key concepts which they have learnt in year 7. In addition to this, they will focus on developing some basic knowledge on concepts covered in GCSE lessons on the anatomy and training methods for fitness testing and begin to focus on more tactical aspects of sport.  

Pupils will begin covering OCR GCSE topics in theory lessons. They will look to cover two key units of work in practical sport, anatomy of the body, fitness testing and sport injury. This will be ran alongside focusing on pupils’ key sports and develop understand of language and key terms in PE.

They will look to cover two key units of work in practical sport, anatomy of the body, fitness testing and sport injury. This will be ran alongside focusing on pupils’ key sports while they look to provide advance knowledge and understanding in becoming fully competent in their key areas.
